Wally Ovalle
Consulted the humans at YEGHIP regarding some ongoing neck and head pain, tension, and clicking with certain motions. Booking was easy, staff at the door were pleasant, and the physiotherapist I saw (Jen) really knew her stuff.
Timothy Weber

What can our Chiropractors help with?

There are several different areas that our chiropractors can help with. We have already highlighted a few of them, but here is a detailed view of the kinds of treatments our chiropractic team offers:

TMJ (temporomandibular joint) is the hinge that connects your jaw bone to your skull. TMJ disorders (TMD) can be caused by overuse of jaw muscles, misalignment of teeth, teeth grinding or clenching, as well as poor posture, and stress. Chiropractic treatment for TMJ/TMD is a non-invasive way to realign your jaw, and relieve jaw pain.

Chiropractic treatment can help with dislocated shoulders, frozen shoulders, rotator cuff injuries, strains, sprains, and tenodonitis. Our team works with you through the assessment, planning, and treatment stages to get your shoulders back to full mobility.

Pinched nerves can be caused by poor movement, or from long term muscle, tendon, and ligament issues. Chiropractic treatment can help alleviate these symptoms.

This occurs when there is a slippage of your vertebrae. Spinal manipulation identifies the joints that are restricted or experiencing abnormal motion, and gently returns motion to the joint. Our team can help you to regain spinal motion and ease your discomfort related to spondylolisthesis.

Vertigo mainly manifests as dizziness that makes it appear as if everything surrounding you is spinning. Severe cases can prevent you from carrying out your daily activities and make it difficult for you to stand and move. If you’re experiencing vertigo, our team will help you to identify the cause and build a treatment plan to manage and improve your symptoms.

Torn ligaments in your heels can cause Plantar Fasciitis. If the tear is not treated, it could be uncomfortable for you to walk or stand. Our team of chiropractors can identify the root cause of this discomfort and work with you to decrease the severity of the pain you’re experiencing.

Your bursa is the small sac found in your joints holding the joint fluid. When it is inflamed, it could cause severe pain and discomfort. This condition is known as bursitis. Bursitis can be treated effectively using chiropractic techniques.

Our therapeutic treatment options can reduce stress by balancing your body’s energy, helping your brain and muscles to relax, and regulating the production of chemicals that trigger stress.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by pressure in the wrist and median nerve, which causes pain, tingling, numbing and stiffness in the hand, wrist, and arm.

Anxiety is can occur for a variety of reasons. Acupuncture, massage, and chiropractic care can help to release tension and relieve emotion-related issues such as anxiety. Treatment can also improve blood flow to the body and regulate the heart rate so that you can remain calm even under stressful conditions.

A vestibular condition is when something’s not right with your inner ear or the part of your brain that controls balance. This can make you feel dizzy, give you spinning sensations, or make it hard to stay steady. These issues can make everyday things, like walking or turning your head quickly, a real challenge. At Human Integrated Performance in Edmonton, we have trained physiotherapists and chiropractors who can help. They use special exercises and treatments to help get your balance back on track and reduce those dizzy feelings.

Neck pain can be caused by multiple factors, such as poor posture, over-strenuous movement, injury, worn joints, or even disease. We have several treatment options that can help you recover, by reducing stiffness and strengthening the neck muscles.

Shin splints are a common injury associated with running or other impact activities. The pain is typically along the inside of the shin or tibia which is amplified with impact. Several different factors can cause shin splints such as improper warm-up or cool down, poor footwear, repetitive stress, flat feet, or even a change in your workouts. There are many ways that shin splints can be successfully treated, including Shockwave, Graston, or Active Release. Restricting impact, stretching, foam rolling, proper footwear, and ice are important during treatment to get you back to your activities as soon as possible.

Sciatica is a nerve pain caused by irritation of the sciatic nerve. Patients often report pain in the lower back and down the back of their leg. Numbness, tingling, or muscle weakness can also occur. Sciatica can be caused by a herniated disc, bone spurs, or spinal stenosis; a narrowing of the spine that can lead to compression of the nerve. Sciatica typically will affect one side of the body. Sneezing, coughing, and straining are often extremely painful with sciatica. Our chiropractors are fully equipped to assess and address irritations of the sciatica nerve.

A shoulder injury can leave you hurt and vulnerable to further injury. We have multiple treatment options for shoulder pain at our clinic. Getting treatment can reduce pain by relieving nerve compression, muscle strain, and joint pressure. You will have more range of movement and the shoulder joint will be more flexible.

Headaches are a common condition causing pain in the head, scalp or neck. They can vary from mild to severe and can have many different causes.

Chiropractic Treatment Options

Exercise Based Rehab

Exercise-based rehab is supported by research and is essential to physiotherapy treatment. We work with patients 1-on-1 to teach exercise plans, which leads to better outcomes. With our physiotherapist-kinesiologist combined treatment model, patients get to spend more time in the clinic at the same price as other providers.

Concussion Rehabilitation

Our Concussion Rehabilitation services can help you recover from Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs) resulting Motor Vehicle Accidents, Sports Injuries, Falls, etc.

Active Release Therapy (ART)

Active Release is a soft tissue and movement-based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Using this technique, your chiropractor will release these tight areas using manual techniques, allowing the area to move freely once again.

ASTM/Graston Technique

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, or Graston Technique, is a soft tissue technique utilizing specific tools which, when effectively applied by a trained practitioner, will break up myofascial adhesions and scar tissue.

Activator®

In this technique, we use the activator adjustment instrument to align your spine. The instrument manipulates your spine and joints. It is ideal for treating back and neck pain, as well as the discomforts you could be feeling on the limbs.

Diversified Chiropractic Technique

We use this technique to help you regain proper movement and alignment of your joints and spine. It involves low amplitude thrusts at a high velocity and is the most widely used technique. Your chiropractor will use their hands to manipulate your spine and joints.

Chiropractic care can help you manage the pain, heal the injuries, and rehabilitate you to feel your best once again.

Aches and Pains

Chiropractic FAQ

Yes, a good chiropractic assessment will reveal whether or not you have sustained any injuries that may require treatment. Whiplash is typically the result of a sudden jerking motion of the head, most commonly from car accidents or falls. Chiropractic adjustments can help restore proper neck mobility after an accident and give your neck time to heal during the healing process. Whiplash affects muscles, ligaments, joints & bones; therefore, it is important to seek immediate medical attention after an accident.

Yes. Sciatica pain is often caused by misalignment of the spine, which puts pressure on the nerves in your lower back or buttocks. A chiropractor can adjust subluxations (misaligned vertebra) that are believed to cause nerve interference. This adjustment takes the pressure off the sciatic nerve, allowing for better blood flow promoting healing within your body. With sciatica, many people experience pain in the sciatic nerve, which pierces through the piriformis. When the piriformis is tight, it squeezes on the sciatic nerve, resulting in sciatica. One approach involves reducing the tension in the piriformis, which will help release the tension on the sciatic nerve. Another is also treating the blowback as one unit with the sciatic nerve to decrease the Sciatic nerve’s inflammation.

If you are diagnosed with scoliosis, please tell your chiropractor during your initial assessment. A chiropractor can effectively reduce the risk factors of scoliosis, depending on the type of scoliosis. Scoliosis can be treated with specific types of chiropractic adjustments and exercises to improve range of motion, flexibility, posture & more. A Chiropractor can figure out the cause of scoliosis and treat it accordingly.

You should consider seeing a chiropractor if you notice that your joints are not moving well, locking up, or feeling ‘out of place.’ If you are experiencing these pains in your knee, foot, ankle, wrist, back, neck, jaw, or shoulder, you should seek a chiro for treatment.

There is no concrete answer as to how often you should see a chiropractor. Typically, someone suffering from low back pain would come into their chiropractor on a weekly basis for a few weeks up to a few months. It depends on the patient, but an average person in good health should see a chiropractor once or twice every month for regular maintenance. If you are experiencing a reoccurring issue or have recently been involved in an accident or a fall, your needs may be more advanced and require more frequent treatment.

Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) are a set of more than 30 conditions that cause jaw joint and muscle discomfort. “TMDs” are disorders caused by the temporomandibular joint (“TMJ”). Everyone has two TMJs, one on each side of the head just in front of the ears. Muscles and ligaments surrounding and attached to the TMJ control its movement. Problems with any of these structures can lead to TMDs.

Most health insurance plans in Alberta will cover chiropractic, but you should always check with your insurance provider to ensure that you are fully aware of your coverage. Based on your plan, some insurance will only cover a percentage of your chiropractic treatment.

In most cases, during your chiropractic session, you will not have to undress. Wear comfortable loose-fitting clothes that will not hamper your movement.

Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on the disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system and the effects on an individual’s wellness. Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches. Chiropractors diagnose problems with mobility and offer treatment options like manual adjustments. Chiropractors also work to improve an individual’s overall health by teaching self-care techniques like proper posture and ergonomics.

Chiropractors are health care professionals who diagnose, treat, and prevent disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system, including nerves, bones (including the spine), muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Chiropractors have a doctorate degree and are accredited by the DC (Doctor of Chiropractic) upon passing a 3 part board exam. The amount of education is extensive. Both DC’s and MD’s are strong in basic sciences and clinical diagnostics, where one degree may have slightly more training than another in any specific area. Chiropractors focus on the musculoskeletal system instead of MDs, who focus on diseases or what we know as internal medicine.
